What Are You Sowing in Your Heart?
God designed our hearts to produce. They are like soil — whatever is planted there will grow and bear fruit, whether good or bad (Mark 4). The seeds we plant will eventually show up in our thoughts, words, actions, and habits.
That’s why Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”Understanding this changed so much for me. I now carefully consider what I meditate on, what I watch, listen to, believe, and read — not out of fear, but because I know that what I allow in will shape the harvest I see later.
If I don’t like the fruit I’m seeing in my life, I need to look at the seed I’ve been planting. Almost every issue that surfaces down the road can be traced back to what I’ve allowed into my heart over time. Those seeds eventually come out in what we say, do, and feel.
If we sow gossip and drama, meditate on problems and worry, watch carnal shows, read risqué novels, absorb worldly ideas and solutions, listen to constant complaining, or believe false doctrine — these are all seeds. And when we allow them in, we are sowing them into our hearts. The harvest will eventually appear in the form of conflict, people won’t trust us, fear, insecurity, confusion, comparison, marital struggles, and more.
Plant the Word. Plant the gospel. Plant truth. Fill your heart with what is pure and life-giving, and you will reap a harvest of abundance, joy, peace, and righteousness. We choose the seed, but the harvest comes automatically. If you don’t want it in your life, don’t plant it in your heart. ❤️
